Long-range shooting looks common on the internet. In reality, places where a civilian can actually shoot beyond one thousand yards are rare, fragmented, and often misunderstood. Many facilities advertise “long range” while topping out at six hundred or eight hundred yards. Others can go much farther but operate quietly as clubs, event venues, or private experiences.

What follows is a practical, objective field guide to currently operating U.S. locations where shooters can reach one thousand yards or more, grouped by distance capability and access model. A) If you want regular access and repetition, look at public or membership one-thousand-yard ranges.
B) If you want coached progression, look at training facilities with ELR capability.
C) If you want private, controlled, ultra-long-distance shooting, only a handful of extended-ELR experiences exist, and access is intentionally limited.

Final Note on long range shooting over 1000 yards

There are very few places in the United States where civilians can shoot beyond one thousand yards, and even fewer beyond one mile. The scarcity is real, not marketing. Facilities that quietly meet these distances often operate outside mainstream directories, which is why misinformation persists.
